Account locked causes: 10 failed logins in 15 min (auto-clears) / admin deactivation / billing restriction. Fix: wait ~15 min OR reset password OR contact admin.

My account is locked — what to do

If you can't log in to Wevion, your account may be temporarily locked. The automatic lockout triggers after 10 failed login attempts within a 15-minute window and clears on its own once that window passes (a successful sign-in also clears it). If you're locked out because you forgot your password, reset it and wait out the window. This is distinct from an admin deactivating your account, billing-related restrictions (see acc-118 billing troubleshooting), and 2FA issues (see tr-108 2FA recovery).

Who is this for

Anyone who tries to log in and sees "account locked" / "too many attempts" / "access denied" errors.

Common causes

1. Too many failed login attempts

10 failed sign-in attempts within a 15-minute window trigger an automatic, temporary lock (you'll see "Too many failed attempts. Please wait a few minutes and try again."). The lock clears by itself once the 15-minute window passes; a successful sign-in also resets the counter.

Fix: wait about 15 minutes, then try again with correct credentials.

If you forgot your password: use the password reset flow (link on login page) instead of guessing — but note the reset doesn't bypass an active lock, so still wait out the window before signing in with the new password.

2. Admin deactivated your account

A workspace admin / owner (or Wevion staff) can deactivate an account (e.g. departing employee, security incident). A deactivated account is blocked from signing in entirely — this is separate from the automatic failed-attempts lock.

Fix: contact your admin / owner. Reactivation is a deliberate admin action.

Distinct from "lockout": expired subscription, payment failure, or plan downgrade may restrict access (read-only OR blocked entirely).

Fix: see acc-118 billing troubleshooting.

How to recover

Step 1: Wait + retry

For the automatic failed-attempts lock: wait about 15 minutes, then try again with correct credentials (not guesses). The lock clears itself once the window passes.

Step 2: Password reset (if you forgot your password)

If you're not sure of your password:

  1. On login page → Forgot password? link
  2. Enter your email
  3. Receive password reset email
  4. Click reset link
  5. Set new password
  6. Log in

The reset link expires in 1 hour (see Password reset & login problems). Resetting stops you from failing more attempts, but if the automatic lock is still active you must wait out the 15-minute window before the new password works.

Step 3: Contact admin / support

If waiting and password reset don't get you back in — for example your account was deactivated by an admin — reach out:

Provide:

  • Your email
  • Workspace name
  • Last successful login (approx date)
  • Error message exactly

The automatic lock clears on its own

There is no manual "unlock" or "reset attempts" button — the failed-attempts lock is time-based and clears automatically after the 15-minute window (or on your next successful sign-in). If an admin deactivated your account, that's a separate state an admin/owner reverses by reactivating you.

2FA-locked situations

If you're locked because of 2FA issues (lost device, can't access codes):

→ see tr-108 2FA recovery. 2FA recovery is a separate flow from password reset.

Prevention

  • Use a password manager — eliminates wrong-password attempts
  • Set up 2FA (Set up two-factor authentication (2FA)) — but save backup codes safely
  • Verify email + SMS — recovery options work better with verified contact info
  • Multi-admin team — deactivating a departed admin is an admin action; keep at least one backup admin so no one gets stranded

Common mistakes

  • Guessing password repeatedly: after 10 failed tries you're locked for the window. Use password reset early.
  • Asking admin to unlock a failed-attempts lock: there's no manual unlock — it clears itself. Admins only reactivate deactivated accounts.
  • Confusing 2FA lock with password lock: different recovery flows — see Lost 2FA device — recovery for 2FA

Common issues

  • Still locked after ~15 minutes: your account may have been deactivated by an admin (a separate state) rather than auto-locked. Contact your admin.
  • Password reset email never arrives: check spam; allowlist noreply@wevion.ai; if persistent, contact support
  • Reset link expired: reset links expire after 1 hour — re-initiate password reset
  • Account locked but you didn't try to log in: someone may have attempted your account; treat as a security event — change password + check sessions

FAQ

How long does a Wevion account lockout last?

The automatic lockout triggers after 10 failed login attempts within a 15-minute window and clears on its own once that window passes — just wait about 15 minutes and retry with correct credentials. A successful sign-in also resets the counter. If you still can't get in after the window, your account may have been deactivated by an admin, which is a separate state.

Can I unlock my account without waiting?

Not the automatic failed-attempts lock — it's time-based and there's no manual unlock button, so you wait out the ~15-minute window. If you forgot your password, reset it (login page → "Forgot password?", link valid 1 hour) so you stop failing attempts, but the reset doesn't bypass an active lock; sign in with the new password once the window clears.

Why is my account locked when I didn't even try to log in?

Someone else may have made repeated failed attempts on your account, tripping the automatic failed-attempts lock. Treat it as a security event: reset your password and check your active sessions. If you receive any unexpected security-related email, verify it's genuinely from Wevion before acting.

Is there an admin button to unlock a locked user?

No. The automatic failed-attempts lock clears itself after the 15-minute window, so there's no admin "unlock" or "reset attempts" control. Admins/owners can only reactivate an account that was deliberately deactivated (a different state). For departed employees, deactivate their account and remove their sessions via the team management flow.

Is a billing restriction the same as an account lockout?

No. An auth lockout comes from too many failed logins (automatic, time-based) or an admin deactivating the account, while billing restrictions come from an expired subscription, payment failure, or plan downgrade and may make the account read-only or blocked. For billing access issues, see acc-118 billing troubleshooting.
